Do they believe in gravity?

Just wondering

If you walk into a fast food type joint, would you rather it be really busy so you have to stand in line? or would you prefer to walk in, see a couple people eating and be served right away?

5 Truths

Ok...so lately I've had the overwhelming feeling that the world has lost its mind...or at least perspective on things...I'm here to sort things out with some truths.

1. Michael Jackson was a remarkable entertainer. HOWEVER, he hasn't been relevant in a generation...yes, a generation...the last album of any consequence he put out was in 1991. By that measure, Guns-N-Roses are still the greatest rock band in the world. Plus, I know you danced to his songs and bought his records...but you didn't know him. Get over yourselves. If you DID actually know Michael Jackson...my condolences...if not...move on.

2. You're missing real news stories because of this silly overkill of the death of MJ on EVERY media outlet...from your local stations to network news. Did you realize that there is some pretty important stuff going on in Iran? or that North Korea has inferred they'll throw a nuke at Hawaii?

3. It gets hot in Sacramento...especially in the summer...why is it surprising? Are you amazed at the lack of light every evening too?

4. California is more fucked than you can even imagine. What we're seeing is unprecedented in the history of our country...and the people responsible for fixing it have virtually no hope of actually doing that.

5. TMZ breaks news stories. Really. Most of what they put out is the journalistic equivalent of pixie stix, but when it comes to celeb news, they put most "legitimate" media outlets to shame. They have sources, make calls, dig up information and yes, even verify things. They broke the Mel Gibson "sugar tits" story...a bank getting bailout money throwing a swanky party at the House of Blues in Hollywood with Sheryl Crow...Chris Brown & Rihanna and the death of Michael Jackson. Maybe there is something "legitimate media" can learn from TMZ.

Improv Battle

If you get a chance, come on down to the Sacramento Comedy Spot Saturday 3-14 and support my team 'My Favorite Shirt' as we take on 'Twofer' in an improv battle to the death.

Ok, it's not to the death...but someone could pull something, maybe tweak a hammy. Bottom line, there IS a chance of danger...and it's a paltry $5.

John Keats

I had occasion to make a joke today that involved the English Poet John Keats...I won't write it here...you'll just have to ask me when you see me.

However, it got me thinking...how much do people really know about Keats? For instance, he died at age 25...and I'm still talking about him 188 years after he passed on. Thanks, education system!

Keats was one of the leading English Romantic Poets and you can learn more about him and read works by searching google...the site I had here isn't there anymore...stupid Keats.

Take a few minutes, read a couple poems and remember, I referenced John Keats...I wasn't making fun of him. I'm sure all the lads he went to school with did plenty of that.

The Adam Carolla Podcast

On my birthday, I found out that my favorite radio show (along with all the other talk shows on KLSX in LA) was cancelled...no more Adam Carolla Show.

However, I'm glad to report that the Aceman has kept to his word and has been podcasting daily from the office in his house. In the first week, The Adam Carolla Podcast became the most downloaded podcast in history with close to a half-million fans, including myself, downloading our bits of Adam.

He started small, just him and his buddy the Weez as his "engineer"...then the guests started: Dr. Drew, T & Bald Bryan, Bill Simmons, Dave Dameshek, Dana Gould, Larry Miller and DAG all came to his office. Then late on Wednesday, I downloaded a gem...a 2 parter including a phoner/skype conversation with tech guy Leo Laporte which was just a great conversation...and wrapping with Carolla answering questions from the message board.

What I'm saying is the little podcast that could is evolving and growing quickly...you might want to check it out...or listen to a whacky morning show...it's your brain.

To find the podcasts either go to iTunes and search "The Adam Carolla Podcast" or hit his website.

Just a note...there's no censorship on the podcast, so the profanity flows...you've been warned.

More Jimmy Fallon

Ok...I went back for more Jimmy Fallon, his 3rd show...and I was glad I did. The monologue was much shorter and the bits more interesting.

He had a good rapport with Cameron Diaz...and taking questions for her via Twitter was a good use of the technology to include people in the show.

Having a dance off with Diaz...also very nice.

I'm not sure if he's hit his stride or not, but it was a step in the right direction.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

So I stayed up late to watch the very first episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon...

He's got a spiffy set, a very good house band and it seems like a talented group of writers.

Here's the problem: Jimmy Fallon. He looked uncomfortable on stage, didn't know what to do with his hands...kept looking down to find his mark...hardly what I expected from a guy who spent several years on SNL.

And his interviews make the Chris Farley Show look like a Matt Lauer Today Show piece. He fawned over Robert DeNiro, then proceeded to talk over him when Bob decided to go into detail about the Tribeca Film Festival. "Lick it for Ten" was painful and slow....

I don't know if I'll check back in for more...maybe a good lenten penance for not being an observant catholic anymore. It certainly FELT like punishment.

How Bad are the Kings?

I've lived across the street from the Sacramento Kings for almost 2 years now, and I still haven't bothered to wander over to see a game. They are terrible...and if a good team comes to town, then the place fills up with their fans paying scalper prices.

As I write this, the Kings have 13 wins...and they've made a lot of trades but without a lot of exciting players coming to Sacramento...so how many games will the Kings win? Check out the poll and let your voice be heard.

3 Things (that piss me off right now)

1. America's movie going public: The top 2 movies in our great country are Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail and Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience. While I get the Jonas Brothers deal, Tyler Perry is horrible as evidenced by the 27% positive rating for his film at rottentomatoes.com
This is one of the 'good' reviews:

"Crowd-pleasing African-American filmmaker Tyler Perry has been heralded as an entrepreneur, a populist, and an expert on the wants of female audiences, but none of that would have been possible if he weren’t also an expert drag performer."

High praise indeed...you'll notice there is no mention of the film. America should be ashamed of itself.

2. The economy: Lots of mistakes and misdeeds by people at various levels, from poor, misinformed people who bought houses they couldn't afford to the people looking to make a quick buck off them to the government who let it all happen. Now we're all being forced to pay the price. From higher credit card payments to banks not extending credit to businesses...to the bank bailout and the new stimulus package...we're all paying the price. And I call bullshit on the lot of them.

3. Rihanna: Sure, this may be an unpopular statement, but I must say it. IF the reports of her and Chris Brown being back together are true, then she's just stupid. I get that she likely comes from some sort of abusive background, but she has both the means and the opportunity to get herself and keep herself away from him (assuming he abused her) and she's hanging out on an island with him?!?!? I'm pissed at her because she should know better AND because it sets a horrible example for her fans who may encounter a boyfriend who treats them badly...this makes it more likely that they'll forgive and forget and suffer for no good reason.

Like it or not, when you are rich and famous the things you do mean things to people you've never met.

That's all for now...

Tough Economic Times

I swear to all that is sweet and holy in the universe that every time I hear the phrase "tough economic times" I am going to scream.

If you hear lots of screaming, I'm probably watching news on television.

Thoughts on the Octomom...

We all know what she looks like, so no need for a picture...I wanted to roll some thoughts out there on her new offers.

If you missed it, TMZ.com discovered an offer from Vivid Entertainment to Nadya Suleman....$1 Million to star in a hard core porn film...plus, medical & dental for her whole family if she becomes a "contract girl"

Later in the day, a competing Adult company, Pink Visual, offered her a year's worth of diapers (8 kids worth) if she turns down the Vivid offer.

So that set my mind to whirring...should she take the money? It would allow her to buy a new house...and give proper medical care to her kids. There is the argument that people look down on porn actors...I don't know that people will look down on her any more than they already do

She supposedly hasn't had actual sex in eight years...and all the new kids are super tiny, so I have no idea if we'd be dealing with something normal looking 'down there' or if we're talking about throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

Is Vivid planning to have it be an Octo-porn? A gang-bang with eight guys? Plus, do you know anyone who'd watch, let alone buy a porn with the octomom in it?

I think the bottom line is she's completely insane...so it doesn't matter at this point what she does. Now I'm going to say something I never thought I'd say and mean it: WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN? WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN? Seriously, 14 kids with virtually no chance of leading normal lives...take them away...have her put in a padded room and make the fertility doctor who implanted 8 embryos in a single woman with no job and 6 other kids at home pay for the whole thing.

Renaming The Mountain

Let me just put this out there, I'm not in favor of renaming things that have been know by other names for years. For instance, in 1987 in Montreal they renamed Dorchester Blvd."Rene Levesque Blvd." confusing anyone who had an old map. That sort of thing happens in lots of places...normally it's for some politician who got their local area a bunch of federal money... I don't like it...it costs money, confuses people and has no point.

That being said...I'm all in favor of this renaming:

LOS ANGELES - County leaders on Tuesday approved a resolution asking a federal agency to rename Negrohead Mountain near Malibu in honor of a black pioneer who settled in the area in the 19th century.

The peak would be known as Ballard Mountain, after John Ballard, if the U.S. Geological Survey's Board on Geographic Names grants the request by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

I'm not sure if the mountain was already sort of named for John Ballard...but yeah...change it...and the worst part is they already changed it TO "Negrohead" because the old name, well...

The name of the mountain, at 2,031 feet the tallest in the area, originally contained a racial slur that even was found on early government topographic maps. It was changed to "negro" in the 1960s.

So to sum up...leave street names alone, change the name of this mountain...and WTF were these people thinking?

I just wanted to share this...

you are welcome.

Ben Stiller at Oscars

I have to be honest, I didn't watch the Oscars...I don't really care about them at all. I know that is kind of odd for someone like me, but so be it. Besides, if anything good happens, you can catch up with it later, like this from Ben Stiller:

If you don't know why this is funny...search out the clip of Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman last week...then it will all make sense

Adam Carolla Continues

So last week (on my birthday, no less) I found out my favorite radio show 'The Adam Carolla Show" was being cancelled by KLSX in LA...thus, the show was ending.

I'm happy to report that Adam has begun podcasting and the first one is out CLICK HERE to go to listen/download it for yourself. I know it made me feel better. It's just Adam for now, no clever drops, no Teresa...but still very satisfying.

So thanks to Adam and go check it out. Picture is a screen grab from Adam's move 'The Hammer'

UPDATE: The podcasts are now available on iTunes...so even easier to get daily...just search for THE ADAM CAROLLA PODCAST it's the one marked as explicit.

Return to the Blog

I recently pulled all of my blog entries...I can't go into why as that might violate some sort of corporate policy. However after some thought...and reading my friend Paul's blog...I decided to relaunch Nate's Eye View.

First and foremost, my ideas in no way are representative of anyone but myself...there, that should take care of any sort of specious policy somewhere.

Second, there will be polls...so come often to vote...kind of like Chicago.

Finally, I'm gonna talk about a variety of topics...religion, culture, stereotypes, sex and politics...no holds barred...so if you're offended by colorful language or topics...this isn't for you.
